The World Cup 2018 is fast approaching. It wont be long before kids and adults alike will be hurriedly trying to fill their World Cup sticker book and saying ‘Surely it’s our year?!’.
With the World Cup comes a batch of brand new shirts and a chance for teams and fans to enjoy some great designs.
Here we look at some of the latest shirts to be released for the 2018 World Cup.
A clean, retro looking shirt from Argentina this year, with a throwback to the 1993 Copa America shirt, the last time Argentina won a major tournament. Argentina beat Mexico 2-1 in the final of that tournament with both goals coming from Batistuta.
Argentina will be hoping to put a fairly disastrous qualifying campaign behind them, in which they just squeezed through qualification with a win in their last game. They’ll be looking to superstar players like Icardi, Dybala, Aguero and, of course, Lionel Messi, to capture some of the former glory and lift the World Cup. They’ll certainly look good doing it in this shirt!
Wow. You’re not going to miss this shirt! A yellow shirt with 3 different coloured stripes over the chest containing thin navy stripes. Another retro style shirt, a nod to the Colombia shirt worn at the World Cup in 1990. In 1990, the Colombian team made it through to the last 16 but were knocked out by two goals by Cameroon striker, Roger Milla, in injury time.
A fairly solid qualification campaign saw them occupy 4th spot, the last automatic qualification place in their group. They’ll be looking to star players, Rodriguez, Bacca and Cuadrado to help them try and better their Quarter Final placing at the last World Cup.
The hosts will be looking good as they take to the field in the summer with their latest football shirt. The new Russia shirt is another retro throwback, taking inspiration from the USSR shirts of the late 80’s. The red shirt has a white collar and white stripes coming in over the arms. The Russian flag is printed on the inside of the collar.
Russia will be hoping that Smolov, Dzagoev and Akinfeev will be able to help the country to their first major tournament victory in front of their home fans.
Another great World Cup shirt, another retro throwback. This time it’s Spain with a great looking shirt and a throwback to World Cup 1994 when they were knocked out by Italy at the Quarter Final stage. This shirt is red with a lined diamond pattern down one side of the shirt. It’s definitely a head turner!
After their incredible success between 2007-2012, when they won the Euros, World Cup then Euros again, Spain will be hoping for a strong showing at the World Cup. They’ll be relying on players such as De Gea, Morata and Isco to help them achieve this.
Wow. What a shirt this is. The new Germany shirt is, again, a retro style shirt but it just looks so good! Based on the famous shirt worn at the 1990 World Cup, which Germany won, this shirt has 3 black, lined stripes across the chest. It definitely looks better with the World Cup winners patch in the centre of the shirt too. The Germans won the 1990 World Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory over Argentina. They also won the 2014 World Cup thank to a 1-0 victory over Argentina. They would surely be happy to do the same again this year! Germany are always a difficult team to beat and they have incredible squad depth. Their qualification path to this World Cup couldn’t really of gone better for Die Mannschaft. 10 wins from 10 with 43 goals scored and only 4 conceded.
Can they win another World Cup? Only time will tell. One thing is for certain, this shirt is going to be very popular!
The World Cup can never come quick enough and it’s good to see Adidas releasing some awesome looking shirts.
